Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Biofilm?
Biofilm is a protective layer produced by bacteria to protect them from the environment. The thin film of semi-gelatinous substance that forms from colonies of microorganisms. The colony attaches to surfaces using the biofilm slime layer which aids in protecting the bacteria. Biofilm also causes dirt and allows bacteria to stick and adhere to surfaces.
This tough layer cannot be penetrated by regular soap and water. Products that claim to kill 99.99% of bacteria still leave hundreds of thousands of bacteria behind to reform because they are protected by biofilm. This bacteria secretes new biofilm and grows larger colonies. Surfaces aren’t really clean unless the biofilm is gone too.
